Places To Clean
Maple Creek Builders Has Some Ideas To Keep Your Home Clean

There’s the bag of clothes in your trunk you’ve been meaning to donate for weeks. The linen closet you always mean to organize but never get to. The back corners of closets, the top of the cabinets, the carpet beneath the sofa…

We all procrastinate, especially when it comes to chores. There’s never been a better time to crack into all the household work you never have time for. So, let’s all use this time as an opportunity to improve!

How about a deep clean of those often-overlooked areas of your home? Here’s a quick list of the spots around the house you may be missing during your weekend cleanings:

Start With The Obvious

First things first: all those surfaces everyone in your house touches daily? Do everyone a favour and give them a wipe down.

Your door handles and light switches probably get overlooked during weekly chores, so make sure those get disinfected. Maple Creek Builders recommends doing this for countertops, tables, and cabinet handles as well. Extend this to everything from bannisters to faucets and fridge handles, anything that you touch daily.

At the current climate we are facing COVID 19 and under quarantine if you need a little more convincing as to the potential personal benefits of staying at home and cleaning these areas, remember that Isaac Newton had perhaps his most productive and groundbreaking year of study while quarantined during the Plague in 1665

1
The Crisper

Since the drawers of your refrigerator likely see a constant rotation of fruits and vegetables, you probably don’t take the time to empty it out for a wipe down – but you should! Bacteria like e. Coli is known to live on the surface of fresh fruit and vegetables, so it’s time to pull out those drawers and give them a good scrub.

2
Trash Can

Even when you empty your trash regularly, it can still become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. Empty it out and take it outside with your favourite cleaning solution and use a hose to blast away the gunk. Make sure to get the sides and bottom, too, not just the inside.

3
Ceiling Fans

Depending on where you live or layout of your home, it may have been a while since you flipped on your ceiling fan. But with summer approaching, now is the right team to give it a cleaning. To quickly and easily remove the dust that has settled on the blades, grab a chair or a stepladder along with an old pillowcase. Slide the pillowcase over one blade at a time and gently slide it off, applying pressure to the top. This will pull all the dust off your fan without depositing it on the floor or across the rest of the room.

3
Coffee Maker

Long-term use can lead to hard-water deposits and mold buildup, so it’s a good idea to give your coffee maker a good scrub down. Run a solution of 50% water and 50% white vinegar through a brewing cycle, then run a few more with just water to get the vinegar taste out.
